ALCA was founded on a simple truth: we are stronger together.

The Australian Land Conservation Alliance works towards a future where nature thrives Australia wide, cared for by empowered people and resilient communities.

As the national peak body for land conservation, we exist to scale nature protection, management and restoration. We focus on privately owned and privately managed land.

We unite and represent organisations actively caring for the lands and waters that sustain life, amplifying their collective voice and shaping the conditions that make their work powerful and enduring.

Our roots go back to 2011 when our founding members saw the power of collaboration and a unified voice.

In 2019, ALCA incorporated, which marked a new stage of growth. Now with a team of 10, we continue working with and for our members andsector, to shape conditions to create greater impact — through better policies, stronger laws, market innovation, deeper support for First Nations leadership, and building recognition that nature underpins a strong, future-ready economy.

ALCA continues to grow and create the enabling conditions for a sector connected by a care for the natural environment and it stewards, for all Australians.

For nearly fifteen years, we’ve pioneered nature finance initiatives, shaped national environmental policy, launched ambitious organisational strategies, and scaled our national conference into the sector’s flagship knowledge platform.

Along the way, we’ve connected the Australian conservation sector to global knowledge and best practice, built stronger cross-sector partnerships, and elevated the voices of landholders, communities, and conservation organisations as we demonstrate that protecting, stewarding and restoring nature is one of the most powerful ways to support people, wildlife, and thriving landscapes.
