ALCA is the national voice for land conservation, making sure it is valued, supported, and scaled to meet the challenge.

Australia’s long-term health, productivity and resiliencedepend on the condition of our natural world.

But nature is under pressure. Climate change, habitat loss ,invasive species, pollution, and unsustainable land use are pushing ourecosystems to the brink. Slow systemic action and underfunding make the problem worse, leaving nature — and the communities, businesses, and supply chains thatdepend on it — at risk. But we can change this.

Conservation on private and non-government land is one of the most powerful pathways to put nature on a path to recovery.

Nearly half of Australia's threatened species’ distributions occur on private freehold land, even though it makes up just 29% of Australia. More broadly, privately managed land accounts for around 60% of the continent, and much of this is agricultural landscapes where many under-represented ecosystems remain.

Across Australia, people from all walks of life are stepping up in record numbers — farmers and landholders, First Nations land managers, communities, and conservation organisations. Together, they are restoring landscapes, protecting wildlife, revitalising waterways, and caring for Country in ways that deliver lasting benefits for nature and people.
