Our annual Federal Budget analysis asks, what's in it for nature?
The Australian Land Conservation Alliance’s 2026 Budget Brunch unpacks what’s in the Federal Budget nature, and what it means for the organisations and communities working to protect, steward and restore it.
The release of ALCA’s Nature Spend Tracker earlier this year shows that the Federal Government is spending over 17 times more on harming nature than looking after it – and with this in mind, ALCA will analyse the key announcements, investments and policy signals,to help attendees understand where funding is (or not) flowing, what gaps remain, and where the opportunities are.
Analysis and discussion will include:
- Trends and changes in the environment budget over time
- Nature spending beyond the environment portfolio
- The Saving Native Species program funding shortfall
- Data transparency issues in the Budget
- The nature spend gap
Introductory remarks by CEO Jody Gunn, followed by analysis by Policy Lead Michael Cornish. There will be an opportunity to ask questions.
